Visual Aids for Visualizing Goals

Whether you are trying to help others visualize company goals or your own personal goals, it helps to develop a picture of how things will look after you achieve your goal or to pictoriialize your goals.  It is also a fun exercise and can even be an exciting company competition if you pick the top 10% of entries or even display alll of them to reaffirm that you are all part of the team.

If you really want to achieve your goals and not simply write them down and then forget where you filed that particular piece of paper you need to have a way to keep your goals in the top of your mind. It's the same reason advertisers advertise, they want you to associate their product with a certain emotion, idea or thought, so that when you are thirsty you automatically want a "_____" (fill in the blank).  Achieving your goals is fun. Notice I didn't say you need to do a lot more work, because it isn't work when you are trying to get what you most desire, it's fun. It will require some effort, but hey, if you are working to achieve what you most desire you will find it gets easier and easier as you progress towards achieveing all of your goals, one day at a time. Remember how much fun you have had doing some actiivty that you enjoyed doing in the past. Because you enjoyed the activiExample of a Goal Posterty and were excited about what the end result could be time just seemed to fly. Well, it is the same when you are pursuing goals that you really want, goals that are aligned with your values and what you most desire. If you dont' feel that kind of energy and excitement perhaps you need to re-evaluate your goals?  Do they align with your values?  Are these really your goals, or goals that you thought would be more acceptable to someone else, like your partner or your parents or your friends? Only you know what your goals should be but once you decide what they are put them in a goal poster or a goal book. This is my goal poster below.  Some of my goals may be obvious, some are vague or abstract but they all mean something to me.  This effort personalizes my goals and gives me pictures of my major goals all in one place, my goals at a glance, a constant reminder of what I am working towards.    This is a great visual reminder of your goals. Some people create a goal book which is the same thing but a different format. Personally, I prefer a Goal Collage or Poster because all of my most important goals can be readily seen on one page or a large poster board, but many people have created goal books or scrapbooks (in case you are into scrapbooking or would like to learn, go here for tips & supplies THAT SCRAPPY GIRL , that's her in the picture in the lower right corner). The advantage of a goal poster is that you can readily see your goals and keep yourself motivated to achieve the things you have set as goals for yourself.

It may not make a lot of sense to someone else looking at your goal poster but it doesn't have to. It doesn't even have to look pretty or neat or anything. It is only meaningful to you and as a way for you to visualize your goals. Hundreds of people have tried this method of creating pictures of their goals to help them imagine what it will be like to have acheived each goal and see themselves enjoying having achieved it and found that overtime they have achieved every single one of their goals. A personal example is my Mother. She attended Kansas State Teachers College and in an English class was asked to write an essay as if they were looking back at their life and summarizing all that they had achieved. In her essay she had become a Writer and wrote a variety of stories and published a book. To Hit a Bullseye You Must Have a TargetShe also had been happily married to a professional, Doctor or Attorney, and they had two boys who were handsome, intelligent young men. (Okay, I added the handsome, intelligent part). By the time my Mother passed away at age 78 she had accomplshed each goal. Her book "Scenes From the Past of Vernon County, Missouri" was a complilation of her newspaper feature stories that were published on the front page of the Sunday edition of the local paper over several years. She was married almost 51 years to my Father an Attorney and Associate Circuit Court Judge in Vernon County and she had two sons who both were college-educated and successful businessmen. It works when you write your goals down, and a goal poster is a great way to keep your goals out where you can see them frequently during the day on your personal bulletin board, the refrigerator, the bathroom mirror or wherever you will see them. When you look at them take a moment to look at each picture and imagine how it will feel to have achieved that goal. How can the Universe respond if it doesn't know what you want?  Or more realistically, how can you achieve it if you do not keep your goals in mind.?  And like most of us we need reminders from time to time. Call it the secret, call it subliminal intention, call it self-programming or just call if fun. Write down your goals and then create a goal poster. When you do, you will have takent the first steps to achieveing your hearts desire.
